ABOUT
As a conductor, Spencer has been grateful to serve as the Assistant Conductor on productions of Albert Herring, L'elisir d'amore, Anna Bolena, Alcina, Il Campanello di Notte, and Suor Angelica. Spencer was recognized as a National Finalist in Opera Conducting by the American Prize Competition for his work on Albert Herring with Chicago Summer Opera. As a Choral Conductor, Spencer has served as the Assistant Conductor of Ball State University's Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and Cardinal Chorus. Spencer also serves as the resident director of the Riverbend Youth Chorale and was the the founding Conductor of Millikin Camerata.

Spencer is a passionate performer and scholar of English choral, operatic, and art song repertoire. He has an affinity for the music of Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Butterworth, and their contemporaries, having done extensive research, study, and performance of their repertoire. He has grown to be so enamored with this repertoire and is so grateful for any opportunity to work on this music.

As a singer, Spencer has been fortunate to perform in over 20 operas in Leading, Comprimario, and Ensemble roles at the University and Professional level. Roles performed and covered include; Camille (The Merry Widow), Count Barigoule (Cendrillon), Martin (The Tender Land), Frederic & Samuel (The Pirates of Penzance), Ferrando (Cosi Fan Tutte), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Spiridione (Il Campanello di Notte), Prunier (La Rondine), and Ernesto (Don Pasquale). Companies he has performed in productions with include; Union Avenue Opera, Raylynmor Opera, MIOpera, Opera Edwardsville and served as a chorister with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Five Cities Baroque Festival, and in residency at St. Albans Cathedral in England. Spencer has sung as the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and Beethoven’s Mass in C.
A passionate educator, Spencer has been determined to bring music and the love of performance to hundreds of students in classroom, private, and workshop instruction. Spencer taught through the Millikin Community Arts Academy as a private instructor where he taught 17+ students from ages 4-74 on guitar, piano, voice, and music theory. He also directed three workshop camps through MCAA for music appreciation (pre-k) and musical theatre (singers ages 6-18). Spencer taught as a voice assistant at Ball State University from 2023-2024, and in that time he led a majority of his students to successful auditions for new degree programs at BSU and university productions. The previously named Riverbend Youth Chorale was founded by Spencer and his previous teacher, Eddie Hitchcock, to bring choral music education to all singers in and around the Greater-Riverbend. The organization has received acclaim for being an area for students of all levels of education and experience to create and learn wonderful music.
Spencer is entering into his final year as a double Masters student in Choral Conducting and Voice Performance at Ball State University. He is also on staff as the Assistant Choir Director at High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, Indiana. He would like to thank his friends, family, mentors, and his beloved cat, Henry, for their unending support.
